How to Set Up Browsify: Complete Onboarding Guide

Browsify installs in under 2 minutes and starts collecting visitor data immediately. But getting the most out of it configuring your fraud score threshold, enabling the right blocking rules, and understanding your dashboard takes a few more minutes of setup.

This guide walks through every step from installation to your first week of monitoring.

Step 1: Install Browsify (2 minutes)

  1. Go to the Browsify listing on the Shopify App Store.
  2. Click Add appInstall app in your Shopify admin.
  3. Browsify embeds automatically into your storefront. No theme code editing required. No developer needed.

Once installed, Browsify begins fingerprinting visitors and collecting data immediately even on the free plan. You'll start seeing visitor analytics within minutes.

Step 2: Choose Your Plan

Free plan Good for evaluation. Includes 4 block rules, 200 visitor analytics, and basic fraud analysis. Enough to see the technology in action, but not enough for active protection.

Base ($6.99/month) The starting point for real protection. Unlocks Visitor ID, Fraud Score, unlimited blocking rules and analytics, and auto-block. This is where most merchants start.

Advance ($12.99/month) Adds VPN/Proxy configuration, Risk Score, TOR blocking, ISP/Referrer blocking, and content protection (right-click, keyboard shortcut blocking). Choose this if you need content protection or granular anonymous traffic control.

Shopify Plus ($24.99/month) Everything, including Block Automation, Developer Tools blocking, full analytics and fraud filters, and priority support.

All paid plans include a 3-day free trial and 30% savings on annual billing.

Step 3: Configure Your Fraud Score Threshold (Critical)

This is the most important setting in Browsify. Your fraud score threshold determines which visitors are automatically blocked.

Navigate to Configuration → Fraud Settings in your Browsify dashboard.

Understanding the Score

Every visitor receives a fraud score from 0 to 100 based on their device signals, network characteristics, and behavioral patterns:

  • 0–33 (Low Risk): Normal visitor. Let them through.
  • 34–66 (Medium Risk): Some risk signals present. Flag for review or monitor.
  • 67–100 (High Risk): Strong fraud indicators. Consider blocking.

Setting the Threshold

The default auto-block threshold is 100 meaning only visitors with the absolute maximum risk score are auto-blocked. This is conservative by design.

Our recommendation: lower it to 80.

At 80, Browsify auto-blocks visitors with strong fraud indicators while keeping false positives below 2% for most stores. This catches the majority of fraudulent traffic without blocking legitimate customers.

Adjustments by store type:

Store Type Recommended Threshold Why
General e-commerce 80 Balanced protection
Dropshipping 80 Higher fraud exposure; standard blocking needed
Fashion / Luxury 80 High AOV makes each false negative expensive
Limited drops / Sneakers 70–75 (during drops) Aggressive blocking needed during launches
B2B / Wholesale 85 Lower fraud risk; avoid blocking business buyers

Step 4: Enable VPN/Proxy Detection

Navigate to Configuration → Network Settings.

Enable VPN/Proxy detection: This identifies visitors connecting through VPN services, proxy servers, and datacenter IPs. Fraudsters use these tools to mask their identity and location.

Enable TOR blocking: TOR provides extreme anonymity with nearly zero legitimate e-commerce use. Block it.

Enable "Allow iCloud Private Relay": This is critical. Apple's iCloud Private Relay masks IP addresses for Safari users on iOS and macOS. These are legitimate customers blocking them means losing a significant portion of your mobile audience.

Step 5: Set Up Block Rules (If Needed)

Browsify supports several types of manual block rules beyond auto-blocking:

IP Blocking

Block specific IP addresses or ranges. Useful for known bad actors, datacenter ranges, or geographic ranges you want to exclude entirely.

Country Blocking

Block traffic from specific countries. Use this if you don't ship to certain regions and want to prevent fraud originating there.

Visitor ID Blocking

Block specific Visitor IDs. This is the most powerful block type it follows the device permanently. Use it when you've identified a specific fraudster's device (from chargeback investigation, for example).

ISP Blocking (Advance+)

Block traffic from specific internet service providers associated with fraud operations.

Referrer Blocking (Advance+)

Block traffic arriving from specific referrer URLs useful when competitors or scraping tools are monitoring your site from identifiable sources.

Step 6: Enable Content Protection (Advance+)

If you're on the Advance or Shopify Plus tier, navigate to Configuration → Content Protection.

Toggle on:

  • Block Right-Click Prevents "Save Image As" and context menu access
  • Block Keyboard Shortcuts Prevents Ctrl+C, Ctrl+U, Ctrl+S
  • Block Text Selection Prevents highlighting and copying text
  • Block Developer Tools (Shopify Plus only) Prevents F12 console access

These settings protect your product photography, descriptions, and theme code from casual theft.

Step 7: Your First Week What to Monitor

Days 1–3: Observe

Don't change any settings yet. Let Browsify collect data and build a baseline.

In your dashboard, monitor:

Visitor count How many unique visitors are being fingerprinted daily. Risk score distribution What percentage of your traffic falls into Low / Medium / High risk bands. Blocked visitor count How many visitors are being auto-blocked by your fraud score threshold. VPN/Proxy percentage What portion of your traffic comes through anonymous connections.

Days 4–5: Review Blocked Visitors

Check the list of auto-blocked visitors. For each one, review:

Is the fraud score justified? Look at the individual signals what made this visitor score high? Are there any false positives? If you see a blocked visitor who looks legitimate (normal device signals but triggered by a single anomaly), consider whitelisting their Visitor ID.

False positive target: below 2%. If more than 2% of blocked visitors appear legitimate, raise your threshold by 5 points (e.g., from 80 to 85).

Days 6–7: Cross-Reference with Chargebacks

Look up your recent chargeback orders in Browsify. Find their Visitor IDs. Are any of those Visitor IDs still active (not blocked)? Block them. Check if any of those Visitor IDs match other orders this reveals repeat offenders you hadn't identified.

Step 8: Ongoing Optimization

Weekly (5 minutes)

Review your dashboard for anomalies: sudden spikes in blocked visitors (potential bot attack), changes in VPN traffic percentage, or new high-risk countries appearing in your visitor data.

After Every Chargeback

Look up the chargeback order → find the Visitor ID → block it. This builds your permanent block list over time, catching repeat offenders who come back under different identities.

Monthly (15 minutes)

Review your fraud score threshold effectiveness. Check your false positive rate. Adjust threshold if needed. Compare your chargeback rate before and after Browsify installation this is your ROI metric.

Troubleshooting

"My fraud score threshold seems too aggressive"

If you're blocking more than 5% of total visitors, your threshold may be too low. Raise it by 5–10 points and monitor for a week.

"I'm still getting chargebacks"

No fraud prevention tool catches 100% of fraud. Check whether the chargebacks are from traditional fraud (which Browsify should catch) or friendly fraud (real customers disputing legitimate orders which no pre-checkout tool can prevent).

"A legitimate customer was blocked"

Go to Configuration → whitelist their Visitor ID or IP address. They'll be immediately unblocked. Review whether your threshold needs adjustment.

"My page load speed changed after installation"

Browsify's fingerprinting runs asynchronously and should have no measurable impact on page load time. If you notice slowdown, contact [email protected] it may be a conflict with another app.
